Happy Spring!

Today is the spring equinox when the day and the night are equal length. it is also the end of the season for customs and festivals around the world. Brazil, Venice, Mardi Gras, Purim, Holi, everyone is masquerading.

The word carnival comes from the origin carni= meet vale= separation. It symbolize the beginning of the lent when people are obtaining from pleasures of the flesh. In chapter 3 of the Bhagavad Gita Arjuna and Krishna are talking about the power of the Gunas, the senses. Krishna emphasize the invitation of yoga to act rather than react to our senses. At this part of the dialog Krishna reminds Arjuna that our senses can astray us and it is our own Dharma, our life purpose, that should be our guide. The senses are like a musk we put on that disguise our true being. The invitation of yoga is to be true to yourself, not identifying with your role, job, position but find your individual voice and follow it. Our action might reflect our roles but our intention should be grounded in the highest. Identifying with your role, your 'costume' can bring more suffering. It is your ego speaking for you. When we are in your ego the search Home is unending task. But when you let go of the identification with the ego, the sweetness of being Home spread around you.

The practices invite us to be in intimacy with ourselves.
