Handstands have been a challenge pose for me. Many of my fears and mental challenges raised up while trying to free myself from the wall. So when I heard a group of friends setting up 365 handstand challenge, I signed myself in.
It is an interesting journey. It started in finding a free handstand, no wall. The first few weeks were the excitement to come off the wall, I made it! But funny enough I found myself attached to the “right” place to do a handstand -about a foot away from the wall.
Now I got to the stage of trying to find the ‘zone’ in handstand, becoming really comfortable to hold it. The practice of sustaining… so yes, there are all this tiny tip, use your fingers, work on core strength, clear your mind, count the breath. They are all right, but there is an invitation to go deeper than the small adjustment to sustain our life, to find freedom.
Vishnu is the preserver god. Many times he is presented resting on the ocean or a snake, both resemble the chaos. In one of his 4 arms, he holds a conch named Panchajanya. It represents the five elements – water, fire, air, earth and space. The conch creates the sound Om - the sound of the universe. In our practice, both on and off the mat, we want to use the five elements to find balance in our life.
The summer heat feels like the time that we would like to be Vishnu, resting on the waves of the ocean, lying in the sun, preserving the world around us. Surprisingly, this also takes some effort, that's why Vishnu holds also a Chakra - sharp spinning wheel. It resembles the purified mind, devoted to the higher spiritual vision.
Vishnu’s laziness, is this month invitation, working on finding the refinements using all the elements to create a harmonized practice. Join me on this path in my regular classes and workshops (July 16th and July 26th). Stay tuned via my Facebook page for more summer offering.

In this introduction to the practice, we will play to cultivate trust and connection. Acrobatics may bedaunting but by breaking the skills down into manageable elements with a yogic perspective, they become possible. We’ll round out the day with a delicious guided thai massage to leave you invigorated and refreshed.
